Hanover Golf Club’s Back Nine Features New Jersey’s Longest Par 5, Designed by
World-Renowned Architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr.

NORTH HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Nearly 45 years after it opened in 1965, the Robert Trent Jones-designed back nine at Hanover Golf Club, one of New Jersey’s finest daily fee courses, continues to treat players to the daring design that made Jones one of history’s foremost golf course architects.

The course attracts golfers lured by the excitement of playing a course known for its artistic landscaping, innovative use of bunkers and liberal use of water hazards.

And, with a new series of special promotions and discount play offerings, a new generation of golfers is being introduced to the work of this giant of golf course architecture.

“The back nine at Hanover Golf Club features generous fairways and the longest Par 5 in the state,” said Hanover Golf Club General Manager Christopher Brock.  “We call it “The Monster” based upon a newspaper review that was written about it a few years back. It’s amazing that the design of the back nine has withstood the test of time and continues to provide golfers with a memorable round of golf and competitive spirit.”

Hanover Golf Club, an 18-hole course in southern New Jersey that is owned and operated by Matrix Golf and Hospitality, a division of Cranbury, N.J.-based Matrix Development Group, features 6,700 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71.

Jones was a founding member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1947. Throughout his career, he designed or redesigned approximately 500 golf courses in more than 40 states and 35 countries.  Some of his most noted course designs include Capilano in Vancouver, Banff in the Canadian Rockies and Peachtree in Atlanta, just to name a few.

Jones’ courses encourage a high level of strategy.  His daring play designs are evident at Hanover’s back nine, which features a very different setting than that of the front nine – sloping greens, bunkering and bringing water into play for seven of the nine holes.  In recent years the back nine has been restored to its original layout, with some of the fairways having changed position of the years.

Hanover Golf Club recently announced a series of special promotions and discount play offerings –  a recreational stimulus package of sorts.  New programs include a Junior Golf Program that allows children to play for free every day after 4 p.m. with a playing adult, a program for women corporate executives in which a teacher from the Executive Women’s Golf Association works directly with these career-oriented women golfers on Wednesday mornings and another instructional program offering private instruction with PGA professionals Dennis Gallagher and Bill Kriews, as well as group lessons, from June 10 to July 15.

Special promotions and discount play at the club also include the Foursome Scramble, a special promotion emphasizing course management that essentially allows four golfers to play for the cost of three, senior discounts, a corporate league 9-hole discount in the evening and a free birthday green fee coupon.

Located in North Hanover Township at 133 Larrison Road, Hanover Golf Club is eight miles from Six Flags Great Adventure and 10 miles from Exit 7 on the New Jersey Turnpike. Offering four sets of tees, Hanover accommodates both the beginning golfer as well as the single-digit handicap. Generous fairways, sloping greens, the rolling hills of central New Jersey and a back nine designed by Jones all provide the perfect setting for a memorable round of golf.
