Matrix Development Group President and CEO Joseph Taylor Honored at Local Non-Profit Fundraising Dinner
Matrix Renews Commitment to Elijah’s Promise NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (June 2009) – Elijah’s Promise, a New Brunswick-based non-profit dedicated to empowering lives and alleviating hunger, celebrated a 10-year alignment with Matrix Development Group and honored Matrix President and CEO Joseph Taylor at its fundraising dinner, Chef’s Night at The Palace at Somerset Park on Monday, June 29. Matrix Development Group, a Cranbury, N.J.-based real estate investment and development company, with office investments in New Brunswick, has long been a partner with this charity. “At my first meeting with the Executive Director of Elijah’s Promise, her commitment to the mission was evident,” said Matrix Development President and CEO Joseph Taylor. “Everyone associated with Elijah’s Promise are extremely dedicated. Matrix is thrilled to be aligned with such a worthy organization. We have been able to build a long-term relationship with this charity in New Brunswick. Whether we are having our employees serve food at the soup kitchen or helping set up wiring for computers, we cherish our relationship with Elijah’s Promise.” In 1999 Matrix sought a local charity to support after purchasing a number of office buildings in the New Brunswick area and for ten years Matrix has aligned itself with Elijah’s Promise. Matrix has since worked continuously, giving annual contributions, supporting the group’s clothing and food drives, donating a van for the organization’s catering arm and helping to develop their new facilities. Matrix currently has two board members, Robert J. Twomey and Michele Cade, who are involved with the non-profit on a regular basis, as well as a number of Matrix employees and their families that work with Elijah’s Promise for fundraisers and other charitable efforts. In the past year, Elijah’s Promise has served more than 100,000 meals at its soup kitchen, distributed nearly 1,000 food packages to people with HIV/AIDS, trained dozens of people at their culinary school and placed them in food-industry related jobs and distributed clothing to more than 1,000 people. Matrix has helped support Elijah’s vision to construct new administrative offices and a culinary school at 211 Livingston Ave. in New Brunswick, serving as general contractor on the project and overseeing construction at the site. Matrix also helped identify the project’s architect, Frank Sherman, and various contractors who provided services at the site. “It is part of our duty as a responsible corporate citizen to give back to the communities that we are invested in, and we are thrilled to be able to provide support to such a worthy cause as Elijah’s Promise,” said Matrix Development Vice President Hilary A. Budny. “Our efforts with Elijah’s Promise goes well beyond monetary donations and providing space for various food and clothing drives. We are committed to broadening our relationship with Elijah’s Promise to include outside organizations and other New Brunswick neighbors to help raise awareness and understanding of the role that quality food and nutrition plays in developing a higher quality of life.” Elijah’s Promise began as a small soup kitchen in 1989 and has since grown into a multi-service agency, offering programs aimed at teaching culinary skills, treating addiction and providing valuable health care services. The overall goal of Elijah’s Promise is to offer a continuum of services leading to self-sufficiency. Programs include the New Brunswick soup kitchen, the only emergency feeding center in the area; Promise Jobs, a state-accredited culinary school that provides valuable job training for those in need of work; a growing catering business that provides graduates of Promise Jobs with employment opportunities and a partnership with Robert Wood Johnson to enable clients access to valuable healthcare services.
