Then and Now: Jumping Brook Country Club

NEPTUNE, N.J.  – Jumping Brook Country Club opened to the public in 1925. Designed by the nationally renowned team of Willard Wilkinson and A.W. Tillinghast, the club has always featured a 6,619-yard golf course on 225 acres of lush, green hills in Neptune, N.J., highlighte4d by a 35,000-square-foot, Tudor-style Club House that has served dinner, refreshments and after-round drinks since the club’s inception.

While a lot has changed during our more than 80 years in business, we have strived to maintain the essential spirit of the Tillinghast design: that a course should challenge the player while surrounding him with beauty. In the early 2000s, the owners and management of Jumping Brook, Matrix Golf and Hospitality, spent considerable time, energy and money to dig into the history of the course and restore it’s intended heritage as a place to revel in the tradition of golf and its timeless playability while enjoying the traditional pursuits of friendly competition, social camaraderie, relationship building and recreation.

Our history is rich and great, though our future is even brighter. In addition to painstakingly restoring the golf course with the help of internationally renowned golf course architect Ian Scott-Taylor of Wales, we have undertaken recent additions to the Club House and surrounding property to bring Jumping Brook firmly into the 21st Century. These additions include the retro Enclave Nite Club, a newly renovated ballroom with capacity for up to 450 people at the Club House and a new, detached Pro Shop that offers the best quality and most popular brands in golf.

Renovations have also extended to the club’s front entrance, the 450-spot parking lot and a new Courtyard by Marriot Hotel, newly built at the end of Jumping Brook Road.

OF course, the biggest change at Jumping Brook has been its accessibility. While the course and Club House were originally open to the public, we have since become a private club. We take immense pride in the history and heritage of Jumping Brook. While golf is an important part of our history, membership to Jumping Brook also provides a sense of belonging and helps to preserve a tradition of personalized service and elegance that is so often hard to find in an age of new construction, modern design and fast-paced living.
